Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited Acquires EEW from EQT

Beijing Enterprises Holdings Limited (âBEHLâ) has signed an agreement to acquire from EQT Infrastructure II ("EQT") and its affiliates collectively 100% shareholding in EEW Energy from Waste (âEEWâ), the market - leading energy - from - waste company in Germany, for approximately ⏠1,438 million. The agreement is conditional upon obtaining an approval under German Foreign Trade and Payments Ordinance. The transaction is expected to close during first quarter of 2016.

Of course every incineration plant separates CO2 â even a waste incineration plant. However, to call them âreal CO2 factoriesâ, as happened inadvertently in a well-known professional magazine, means more than a misguided editorial phrase. Because it disregards that in the past years most incineration plants for domestic waste have extended to waste-fuelled power stations. In the era of renewable energy they have become important guarantors of waste disposal and energy supply.

A year has passed since the European Commissionâs first vice president, Frans Timmermans, called a halt to the Commissionâs Roadmap to a Circular Economy; a decision that caught many in the waste industry by surprise. The new package, published on 2 December, sets out a revised and âmore ambitiousâ proposal, including the provision for the separate collection of biowaste.
