On 18 November 2004, Russia finally completed its ratification of the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Experimental tests on a flat and a semi-circular-shaped channel section, and on a 25 m long concrete channel section, have succeeded in finding effectively functional surface textures easily implementable in pipe production, and using which depositions of solids can be avoided even at low rates of flow and only slight gradients and, in the case of only intermittent operation, any deposited solids can be quickly rinsed off.
