Barbara Hendricks regrets Trumps' decision, but makes it clear that international climate protection will continue. Hendricks is optimistic about the implementation of the Paris agreement, as the rest of the world is behind the agreement.

Reported CO2 emissions from new cars continue to fall

Emissions from official testing reported by national authorities show that new cars sold in the European Union (EU) are increasingly more fuel-efficient. Last year, new passenger cars emitted on average 119.6 grammes (g) of carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometre, 8% below the official EU target set for 2015, according to provisional data published today by the European Environment Agency (EEA).

CO2 separation from waste incineration plants

Of course every incineration plant separates CO2 – even a waste incineration plant. However, to call them “real CO2 factories”, as happened inadvertently in a well-known professional magazine, means more than a misguided editorial phrase. Because it disregards that in the past years most incineration plants for domestic waste have extended to waste-fuelled power stations. In the era of renewable energy they have become important guarantors of waste disposal and energy supply.

The Final Clean Power Plan: More Ambitious, More Achievable for States
© ASK-EU (03.08.2015)
Today, President Obama announced EPA’s historic Clean Power Plan, a first-of-its-kind step to cut the harmful carbon pollution fueling climate change from our nation’s power plants. Climate change threatens our health, our economy, and our way of life with impacts like more intense heat, cold, droughts, floods, fires, and storms. And power plants are our nation’s largest driver of climate change, making up a third of our carbon pollution emissions.

EU reports lowest greenhouse gas emissions on record

The European Union's greenhouse gas emissions continued to fall in 2012, as a 1.3 % decrease cut emissions to 19.2 % below 1990 levels, according to official data from the European Environment Agency (EEA). This puts the EU within reach of its 20 % reduction target, with eight years to go until the 2020 deadline.

IPCC report shows growing risks from already-present climate change
© European Environment Agency (31.03.2014)
Climate change is already having substantial and widespread impacts around the world, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Drawing on a larger body of evidence than ever before, it highlights a wide range of risks in vital areas such as food supply, human health and economic development.

Climate Change Performance Index: Emissions are rising - but there is a glimmer of hope

Hot summer weather exacerbating ozone pollution
© European Environment Agency (14.08.2013)
Unusually high temperatures this summer may be contributing to poor air quality in many European cities. Thresholds to protect health from ground-level ozone have been exceeded across Europe in recent weeks, according to preliminary data reported to the European Environment Agency (EEA).
